Reflections on Math & School

School… I love school. I love learning, as long as it’s not Math. My relationship with math is at best… anxious. If I could begin to explain the breadth and depth of my anxiety at having to complete math, I’d probably be able to write the most entertaining psychological thriller the world has ever known. But alas, I’m not. The moment you throw letters into the mix with numbers my brain shuts down, packs a bag, gives me the finger and departs muttering something about being over it.

It was so bad in high school that my pre algebra (yes PRE AL) teacher dropped me from the class with a c- and consolatory pat on the back because she didn’t have the time necessary to correct my complete and utter lack of understanding. Fast forward 17 years, I’d put my single math requirement off for my bachelors degree for so long I’d whittled my course requirements down to 3 courses before my bachelors. So I pulled the trigger. Time to face the fear. After a special circumstances extension to my course to account for my military schedule, 4 months and a whole, unhealthy amount of procrastination later, I just turned in my final assignment for my Algebra course.

Quick note on that, I did all the course work I was ABLE to do. My procrastination left me in the lurch when it comes to my final exam. I’m not able to coordinate a proctor to get it done in time so i’ll have to take the percentage loss on that one. If my math is right (hahaha) I’ll pass with somewhere around a C. I can handle that.

Math can suck it.

C is for...
